Blighted Bellies n Pelvic Dreams

My journey to having a baby as a 38 yo with undetected Pelvic Inflammation Disease

26wks n steroid shots

Yep tomorrow i have my first steroid shot in case Ranga B decides to make an early appearance then back to the drs Friday for the 2nd lot exactly 24hrs later. I havent had any problems so far and feeling blessed still-lotsa nanny naps which i will miss when school goes back next week. My Ranga partner has two days off work to ferry me the hour long trip each way to the dr. Also get the gestational diabetes results tomorrow too. (Don’t get me started on THAT!) not worried about either issues tomorrow-if its what i have to do, its what i will do! Nothing NOTHING compares to the ivf roundabout and medication!

Have decided i will finish work earlier….now just to decide when to tell my students as i have some students who totally dont cope with change.

Progynova and I- will our relationship end tomorrow?

12weeks 4 days 🙂

I am on 2 x 2mg Progynova every day, have been since day 1, and I suffer massive headaches. Tonight I think it would almost be called a migraine-never had one so not really sure but have had this massive headaches a few times in the past 3 months.

Tomorrow I am meeting my new specialist dr and really hoping that he says I can stop the Progynova tablets. My IVF doctor said to stop taking them at 12 weeks but after some spotting at 11 weeks, he told me to stay put until I check in with my new doc.

I decided to research the side effects of Progynova tonight, in more detail. I had a quick look when I started and noted the headaches but that was all. Now, the list of side effects is making me wonder if I really do have morning sickness OR medication side effects. The list of my symptoms are…. headaches, massively sore boobs, nausea, irregular constipation, veejayjay dryness and surprise surprise-they are all the effects of the drugs. Have surfed some fertility chats and they have the same effects, down to the point of one person noting that the headaches and lethargy got worse as the day went on (yep! same here!)

So, if I can finish (please please) the tablets tomorrow, I wonder how long they will take to get out of my system. I can’t wait for the headache (its only one headache and just is ongoing!)  to just go away…….

And I thought that the cold turkey headache whenever I gave up Coke (caffeine) was bad.

Caesarean? Natural birth? Next decision.

I went to the GP on Tuesday for my first antenatal visit and she was lovely. I have a diary that I have tracked all my IVF milestones in, and now it will be my pregnancy one. I had a list of questions for her and she let me go through them. One of them tho was NOT-what type of delivery do I want? She suggests, she pretty well tells you very strongly, that a caesarean is the best and only option. No discussion.

She has all the right words to turn me off giving birth in our small local hospital where Ranga, his brothers n sister and both parents, were born. As I work in a small school about 20mins from home, in a very low socio-economic area, she knows a lot of the clientele I work with. She said that every child and parent who came to town shopping would stop in to say hi to Miss V and check out the baby. They would also have their 5 other children, Nanna and the best friend when they stopped in. If I am lucky, the other four beds in the maternity ward (makes no difference if yr private or public patient) would have at least one of their friends who they would then visit, go and have a smoke with, then return to say bye. Enough said.

Her other turning words were-do you know about the rectal damage caused from giving birth? Do you know how many mothers cant run, jump on a trampoline and so on with their kids in case they crap themselves? Urgh!

Her last words that were very true I think, were that I AM 38, will be 39 by the time the baby is born. Labour will be exhausting. I will be tired before giving birth from just being fat and 39. My body may not bounce back like a 20 yo. My muscles may not stretch like a 30 yo. Caesarean = 20 mins waa waa heres your baby! (her words exactly!)

So I am researching it. My friend the midwife is going to talk to us one weekend about both options. I am having lunch with a work colleague today who gave birth by caesarean to no. 4 when she was 39. I am meeting the suggested Ob for a chat next week.

Realistically, a caesarean is really where I am thinking now. I will be just excited to be having a baby, as long as it is safe and healthy I dont care how it gets here 🙂

Whats your thoughts? Please share!!!!!

What makes me sick….

These are the things that cause me to feel nauseous/throw up/dry retch. I imagine in amonth’s time when other pregnancy stuff is happening, I am sure I will forget all the joys of morning sickness, so want to record things that affect me.

  1. The smell of myself in the toilet.
  2. the smell of others from the toilet.
  3. the smell of air freshener in the said toilet (Ranga’s deo is my new alternative!)
  4. the smell of handwash
  5. the smell of dog biscuits
  6. the smell of bacon or any meat cooking
  7. sitting straight upright
  8. anything going over my head
  9. anything near my throat (jumpers, shirts, necklaces, blankets, pillows)
  10. bending over (to pick up washing etc)
  11. bending to get and out of the car
  12. bending to do anything eg tie laces, pull up knickers, mark student’s work and so on.
  13. walking fast
  14. walking in windy conditions
  15. walking uphill
  16. talking loud for extended time eg telling story at dinner
  17. eating more than half a meal
  18. cordial

I think that it is all….am sure I will think of other things later 🙂

What makes you sick?

Our Bobblehead Baby!

Turn and face me.

Put your hands up, either side of your head.

Jump up and down, like you’re on a trampoline.

Now, wiggle your head from side to side.

Yep, that’s what our bobblehead baby looked like!

(this is a profile pic, missed the bobblehead one!)

11weeks 4days and just perfect!

After a worrying few days over the weekend, I got an appointment straight away with my GP on Monday morning. Even tho I havent had my initial meeting with her yet, she knows we are pregnant and all the details, she got straight to the business of the spotting and sent me straight for a scan.I wanted to take my step-daughter (18yo) who has been involved in all of our ivf, as much as we can include her as she lives 200km away, wanted her to see the ultrasound but wanted to protect her in case things werent as they were suppose to be.

Now I wish i had rang and she had driven to the clinic and she had waited in the clinic until i knew it was all ok.

One of the first sights I saw in the ultrasound was our baby as a bobblehead! Then I realised it looked like a baby!!!! Arms, legs, face, head. Little tubby body 🙂

Then I asked about the heartbeat, and the ultrasound guy said, Yeah its there! (Phew, whole reason I was there!)

(When I saw my GP the next day, she asked why did he take all these pics, we just wanted to know it still had a heartbeat! I said that it was okay-it was $170 whether he took one scan pic or a lot!)

He also measured its head circumference (6cm) in case I want to knit a beanie, its crown-rump length (5.19cm) and its heartbeat (143 which my step-daughter tells me is perfect if it was a dog!-shes training to be a vet nurse!)

I then had to tell Ranga why I had been for a scan. He doesnt cope with decisions and stress at the best of times and he had had a few mind numbing days last week, so I hadnt told him about the spotting. He coped just fine and was just happy everything was fine!

So, the next scan is Tuesday 2 July. Its the nuchal translucency scan to measure for indictors of Down Syndrome etc. I am taking my little sister (who is unable to have children at all) and if the lil one moves and jives like it did on Monday, then she will in for a good show!

Sooooo relieved!

Blogs-so far behind…

Hi there all.

Back again, in holiday mode 🙂 and time to catch up. So many things have and havent happened but its the first day of winter school holidays and i can finally breathe. Ahhhhhh! I have the house to myself (lovely!) and am just poking around doing random bits here and there. Nice! Dont get me wrong-i love having my man around but i do really love some space and hes not the type of guy to head off with mates for a day out on weekends, leaving me to poke around with the vacuum or a good book or whateva i feel like doing. He has booked his next 4 day weekend away with mates fishing and i just cant wait!

School was super busy the last 4 weeks with report cards due after being checked twice and edited, checking reports for friends, the school musical that i do the makeup and videoing of, filling in time with 20 tired 9&10 yr olds who are busting for the holidays like me, trying not to throw up at work, finishing assessment for reporting…..and the list goes on!

what has happened tho, is that i am 11wks and 3days 🙂 We have been dismissed from our infertility dr and i am booked in to see my GP/gym buddy tomorrow for my first visit! I have booked the nuchal transluency test for next Tuesday (12wks 4 days) and am taking my lil sister with me to see the scan. Have had so many blog ideas but now my head is just empty-and for one big reason.

I have had some spotting. Not fresh but enough for my midwife friend to be consulted and she thought the same as me-get into the GP today, not tomorrow as i already had booked. So now, I am biding time for another 25 minutes till I leave to see the dr. Am not greatly worried-its oldish looking, no pain- and i havent told the ranga partner either. He doesnt cope well with any stress-had 2days off last week as he wasnt feeling mentally right-so telling him thats stuffs happened can happen later-when i know what to tell him Exactly. He’s always a glass half empty guy-I’m a glass is overflowing girl!

All will be ok I am sure. The morning sickness and sore boobs are still ever present-blessings but curses!-telling me hormones still jiving around. Will be back later today-hoping they might do a scan, wana see my jellybean PLUS Ranga’s almost 18yold daughter is here till tomorrow-would be cool if she could see a scan too!

Back soon 🙂
